SIOUX FALLS - Aberdeen Central's tennis team suffered setbacks at the hands of both Mitchell and Washington High School on Monday in Sioux Falls.
The Golden Eagles started with a 5-4 loss to Mitchell before losing an 8-1 decision to the Warriors. Against the Kernels, Central had two victories in singles, with Ricardo Deambrogio and Aaron Lorenz each winning their matches. Central's first two doubles teams each won to tie the dual at 4-4 before the Kernels won the final match.
They just seemed to hit the ball a lot better than us today, said Central coach Dana Trumm. The effects of having so many practices called off and the Easter break kind of showed today.
The lone victory for Central against Washington came at first-flight singles, where Brett Lorenz dispatched his opponent 10-2. Nate Ackert was filling in as a substitute for the Warriors' regular starter at number one singles.
Washington is a very good team, even with their number one (singles) player gone, said Trumm. They were a very good opponent and just more consistent in every aspect of the game and a lot more talented than we are. We didn't do anything to help ourselves today, we had a lot of mental errors.
Weather permitting, both Aberdeen Central and Roncalli will face Milbank at the NSU Courts today. Roncalli and Milbank are scheduled for a 2 p.m. followed by Central's match at 4 p.m.
