The winter, which wrecked plenty of havoc during the regular basketball season, continued to make its mark during the post season on Tuesday.
The District 1A and District 2A tournaments were both postponed as was part of District 11A because of hazardous traveling conditions.
District 1A scheduled for the Aberdeen Civic Arena will now take place on Thursday and Saturday. Thursday's games feature Aberdeen Roncalli vs. Leola-Frederick at 6:30 p.m., followed by Britton-Hecla vs. Groton at 8 p.m. Saturday's championship is tentatively scheduled for 8 p.m.
District 2A scheduled for Sisseton has also been pushed back to Thursday and Saturday. Thursday's games pit Sisseton vs. Webster at 6 p.m., followed by Milbank vs. Tiospa Zina at 7:30 p.m. Saturday's championship will take place at 4 p.m.
The Cheyenne-Eagle Butte vs. Mobridge-Pollock game at Mobridge from District 11A has been moved to Thursday at 7 p.m. The other half of the district did take place on Tuesday. The championship is now tentatively set for Saturday.
SDSU women No. 3
The Sioux Falls Arena will host the Summit League Women's Basketball Tournament starting Saturday.
Saturday's quarterfinal games: No. 1 Oral Roberts (20-9) vs. No. 8 Western Illinois (8-20) at noon and No. 2 Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne-IPFW (19-9) vs. No. 7 Missouri at Kansas City-UMKC (14-15) at 2:30 p.m. Sunday's quarterfinal games: No. 4 Oakland (18-11) vs. No. 5 Southern Utah (16-13) at noon and No. 3 South Dakota State (16-13) vs. No. 6 North Dakota State (13-15) at 2:30 p.m. All the quarters and semis are to be on Midco Sports Net.
Team Dakota up, running
South Dakota's new professional rodeo team is up and running.
The team is using its fame to promote tourism in the state. The team is working with the South Dakota Department of Tourism.
The team promoted itself and the state recently at the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo in Rapid City. Rodeo stars on the team at the event included: bareback rider Joe Gunderson of Agar; steer wrestlers Jake Rinehart of Highmore and Todd Suhn of Hermosa; and saddle bronc riders J.J. Elshere of Quinn and Jessie Bail (also a bull rider) of Camp Crook.
World champion rodeo legend Paul Tierney of Oral is the organizer of the team. Details: 605-424-6192.
Aberdeen Central spring sports
The kick-off meeting for Aberdeen Central spring sports will be March 14 at 7 p.m. in the Kelly Theatre at the high school campus. All students and parents in spring sports (track grades 7-12, girls' golf grades 6-12 and boys' tennis grades 6-12) are encouraged to attend.
