The Aberdeen Central girls' high school soccer team erased some of the disappointment of a loss on Saturday with a big offensive output on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles scored four goals in each half on the way to an 8-0 win over Watertown at Swisher Field. Watertown is a club-sponsored team.
We were really not happy about the way we played on Saturday, said Aberdeen girls' coach Merle Aske. (Tuesday) the girls came out and focused on what we wanted to do. It was time to get back to basics. We moved the ball around, attacked quickly and found openings. The girls did a good job of finishing.
Seven different players scored goals and five different players were credited with assists. Michaela Tofflemire accounted for two goals. Taylor Morgan and Paige Sommers had two assists each. Emily Brennan and finished with one goal and one assist each. Morgan and Sommers scored goals to go with their two assists.
The girls settled into a rhythm and controlled the ball. We didn't want them to have an opportunity to attack. We attacked the goal when we had a chance, Aske said.
The Golden Eagles opened the season with three games in five days.
Aberdeen remains at home in its next action hosting Sioux Falls O'Gorman on Saturday at Swisher Field with a girls' game at 4 p.m. and the boys' game to follow at 6 p.m. The O'Gorman game counts in the South Dakota High School Activities Association seeding. The Aberdeen girls' team is 2-1-0 this season.
It's just a matter of a building process, Aske said. O'Gorman is a big game.
