On Nov. 14, Israel launched an airstrike that blew up the car carrying the commander of the Hamas military wing, Ahmed Jabari.  Gaza responded forcefully, sending more than 300 rockets into Israel over a 24-hour period and nearly 1,400 total, some aimed as far as population-dense areas like Tel Aviv.  The week-long conflict killed more than 162 Palestinians and five Israelis.  A ceasefire was finally brokered on Nov. 21.
