September 1 - Discovery Channel gunman

On September 1, James Jay Lee, a 43-year-old environmental protester, entered the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="ORCRP0000017176" title="Discovery Communications, Inc." href="/topic/business/media-industry/television-industry/discovery-communications-inc.-ORCRP0000017176.topic">Discovery Channel</a> headquarters in <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLGEO100100608011573" title="Silver Spring (Montgomery, Maryland)" href="/topic/us/maryland/montgomery-county-%28maryland%29/silver-spring-%28montgomery-maryland%29-PLGEO100100608011573.topic">Silver Spring</a>, <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLGEO100100600000000" title="Maryland" href="/topic/us/maryland-PLGEO100100600000000.topic">Maryland</a> claiming to be armed with a bomb and two pistols.  Lee fired a shot into the air, before taking hostages.  After a nearly four hour long standoff Lee was shot and killed by police.  No hostages were hurt in the standoff.  Lee had previously held protests outside of the building, including one where he through money into the air.

Lee fired a shot into the air, before taking hostages. After a nearly four hour long standoff Lee was shot and killed by police. No hostages were hurt in the standoff.
