Teams may look to trade for 49ers' Boone

Several teams are preparing to approach the San Francisco 49ers about possibly trading for guard Alex Boone, according to ESPN.

Boone has been holding out throughout the offseason for a bigger contract. He and the team are far apart in an extension. It is believed that Boone is prepared to continue his holdout until a new deal is done. He has two years and $4 million left on his contract.

Boone signed a five-year deal in 2011 when he was backup. After developing into one of the most effective guards in the league, he wants to be paid like a starter.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Giants are among the teams in need of a guard. Boone can also play tackle.

The 49ers do not want to trade Boone, as he is a significant part of their offensive line.

Joe Looney has been filling Boone's spot with the first unit but he struggled during Thursday's exhibition loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday.
