Larry David will make his Broadway debut this winter in "Fish in the Dark," a new play that he also wrote.

Produced by Scott Rudin, the play is a comedy about a clan dealing with a death in the family, and has a cast of about fifteen. Showbiz411 broke the news, with information then clarified in an interview with the New York Times and confirmed by reps for the production.

"Seinfeld" creator David said in the interview that he would portray a character similar to himself -- not unlike the fictionalized Larry David he played in HBO series "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

Rumors of the Broadway production have circulated since January, although speculation that David's "Seinfeld" star Jerry Seinfeld would be a part of the project didn't pan out.

Anna D. Shapiro ("Of Mice and Men") will direct the play. Rudin, who nabbed a Tony in the spring for Denzel Washington starrer "A Raisin in the Sun," has tapped Shapiro for previous productions including "The Motherfucker with the Hat" and the incoming Broadway staging of "This Is Our Youth" starring Michael Cera and Kieran Culkin.

"Fish in the Dark" will open at a Shubert theater still to be locked in, with an opening set for March 5. Further casting remains to be announced.
