Tommy Lee Jones' 'The Homesman' Gets Awards Season Release Date from Saban Films

Saban Films will partner with Roadside Attractions to handle the U.S. theatrical distribution of "The Homesman," setting a Nov. 7 release date and planning an aggressive awards campaign.

The new label acquired U.S. distribution to the Western drama, starring Tommy Lee Jones and Hilary Swank, following its world premiere in competition at Cannes. The film also stars Meryl Streep and her daughter Grace Gummer, Miranda Otto, Sonja Richter, Hailee Steinfeld and James Spader.

Roadside titles have garnered 13 Oscar nominations over the past four awards seasons.

This is the first acquisition for Saban Films and the second collaboration between Saban President Bill Bromiley, Tommy Lee Jones and Michael Fitzgerald following 2008's "In the Electric Mist."

Saban Films will also manage sales on all other U.S. distribution platforms for "The Homesman."

Media mogul Haim Saban is moving into movies with the launch of Saban Films, announced a week before the start of the Cannes Film Festival.

Saban Films plans to acquire eight to 10 feature films per year and distribute in North America via a major studio.
