Owlwood (Still) Up for Grabs

YOUR MAMA'S NOTES: The illustrious, 10-ish acre Holmby Hills spread known as Owlwood has popped back up for sale as a not so quiet whisper listing. The children may recall that Your Mama discussed Owlwood at some length in July, 2012 after impeccably connected informant Lenny Lemmetellya kindly let us know the estate, which backs up to the L.A. Country Club, was being shopped on the down low with an astronomical $150 million price tag. So the stories go Owlwood was previously in escrow at an unknown price with an unknown buyer but, obviously, the deal was not consummated.

Your Mama queried listing agent and Million Dollar Listing star Josh Flagg who was vague and would only say that estate is being shown privately to pre-qualified clients and it will not appear in the MLS. He declined to reveal or even discuss the asking price but everybody Your Mama talked to says it's (still) priced at $150 million.

The eight bedroom and ten bathroom Italianate manse was built in the 1930s for heiress Florence Letts Quinn; Her daddy developed the Holmby Hills 'hood. It was later owned by hotelier Joseph Drown--Conrad Hilton's partner-- and film industry pioneer Joe Schenck. Tony Curtis bought the approx. 12,000 square foot house from Superior Oil founder William Keck and, in the 1970s, sold it to Sonny and Cher. (Cher also lived there for a bit with Greg Allman.) Later owners include a theater producing carpet tycoon and a shadowy Syrian-born businessmen.

Owlwood is being represented by Josh Flagg and Ann Dashiell at Rodeo Realty.
