AMC's 'Halt and Catch Fire' Opens to Small Crowd; 'Game of Thrones' Ties Series High

AMC's "Halt and Catch Fire," which was made available to viewers on a variety of platforms in the week leading up to its premiere, opened to a modest 1.2 million viewers on Sunday, according to Nielsen.

The drama about the start of the computer boom came in well below Revolutionary War drama "Turn," which bowed to 1.9 million viewers in April.

Next week will probably provide a better picture of "Halt's" audience as the pilot episode was sampled in sneak previews in May on AMC.com, Tumblr, TV Everywhere and other platforms.

"The preview generated hundreds of thousands of plays and strong social media buzz - just off the results we can immediately measure" said AMC president Charlie Collier in a statement. "We are happy with the positive response to the show and look forward to sharing the rest of the season with viewers."

In adults 18-49, "Halt" earned roughly a 0.35 rating (433,000 viewers in this age range), building on its "Turn" lead-in (0.30, or 369,000). "Turn" on Sunday drew about the same overall audience as the "Halt" (1.2 million).

One week earlier, airing in the same 10 p.m. time period, the season finale of "Mad Men" drew 1.94 million and a 0.67 demo rating.

Over at HBO, "Game of Thrones" returned after a week's break and matched its series high with roughly 7.2 million viewers. "Silicon Valley" ended its season with about 1.7 million viewers, up a bit from its prior two episodes.
