CBS Studios International, RTI Productions Ink Option for Spanish-language 'Dynasty'

MADRID - CBS Studios International has signed an option agreement with the Bogota and Miami-based RTI Producciones for a Spanish-language remake of the iconic Aaron Spelling-produced '80s soap "Dynasty," a story of excess - wealth, power, rivalry - which, written with excess for ABC and running 1981 to 1989 at its heights in 1985 rated as the Number 1 show in the U.S.

"Dynasty's" Moldavian massacre fifth season final had a 60 million viewership.

Deal marks the first time "Dynasty" will be retooled for Hispanic audiences. The redo will maintain the series' defining characters such as Alexis Carrington, played by Joan Collins whose debut in Season Two drove initiated Dynasty's ratings build , and Blake Carrington, limned by John Forsythe, RTI announced Monday.

The producer of "La reina del sur" and "Sin senos no hay paraiso," RTI gave few other details of its retooling.

As fiction series production booms outside the U.S., seen in the flood of new fiction formats and originals unleashed at Mip TV last week, the "Dynasty" revamp chimes with RTI's push into ever high-profile productions, having overhauled its management and upgraded its TV production technology.

Holding down a seven-year production pact with Televisa, RTI has teamed with the Mexican giant to produce "La viuda negra." Shot in Miami, New York and Medellin, to air on RCN and Univision, "Viuda" is a bio-novela about "Queen of Cocaine" Griselda Blanco, a Medellin mega-mobster, who opened up drug cartel trade routes with the U.S..
