TNT has given the greenlight to a 10-episode drama series based on its TV movie franchise "The Librarian," which starred Noah Wyle as the titular librarian tasked with protecting a mysterious collection of ancient artifacts.
Rebecca Romijn will star in this version, which has the subtle title change to "The Librarians." Wyle will reprise his role from the movie series. The cast also includes Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin, who appeared in the original series, as well as John Larroquette, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth and Matt Frewer.
The series is produced by Electric Entertainment. Exec producers are Wyle, Electric's Dean Devlin, John Rogers and Marc Roskin.
"'The Librarian' movies have been a huge success for TNT, and we jumped at the opportunity to build a series around the incredible world Dean Devlin and his creative partners created," said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). "We're especially excited to have such an extraordinary cast behind 'The Librarians,' and we're grateful to have them on board as part of TNT's continued expansion into the action-adventure genre."
The series is set to premiere at the end of this year.
