Luke Bracey has been tapped to play FBI agent Johnny Utah
in Alcon's reboot of "Point Break." The role was originally played
by Keanu Reeves in the 1991 original, which co-starred Patrick
Swayze. Gerard Butler is set to play Bodhi in the surfing thriller
with Ericson Core attached to direct. The remake will retain the
original story of an FBI agent infiltrating a ring of criminals but
will be set in the world of extreme sports. Bracey most recently
appeared in "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" and also had a role in the
Selena Gomez movie "Monte Carlo." Alcon's Broderick Johnson and
Andrew Kosove are producing along with John Baldecchi, Chris Taylor
and Wimmer. Alcon tested a handful of actors on Friday including
"Fifty Shades of Grey" thesp Luke Grimes before picking Bracey for
the role. Alcon had eyed Garrett Hedlund and Nicholas Hoult for the
part but in the end decided to go for more of an up-and-comer
instead of an established name to pair alongside Butler. Bracey is
repped by CAA, Roar and Morrissey Management.
