Gates is promoting his new book, "Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War," a tome about his tours of duty in the Obama and Bush administrations that is being released Tuesday. Yahoo posted four video segments of Couric's interview with him -- totaling less than 7 minutes -- on Monday. Gates wears a neck brace, after he broke a vertebra tripping on a rug in his home in Washington State, The Washington Post reported.
Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer announced the pact with Couric to lead the Internet media company's news operations, at least nominally, in November. Couric, former CBS News anchor and longtime "Today" show host, had hosted a syndicated talkshow ("Katie") distributed by ABC, which announced last month that the show will not be renewed. Last week at the 2014 International CES, Couric joined Mayer onstage during the Yahoo chief's keynote preso, and Couric acknowledged that the particulars of her new role are still being defined.
