Paolo Sorrentino Secures Michael Caine for 'In The Future'

ROME - Italo helmer Paolo Sorrentino ("The Great Beauty") has secured Michael Caine to topline his next pic, to be titled "In The Future."

Sorrentino announced Tuesday that he will be working with Caine, confirming news revealed recently by the thesp himself in a Los Angeles Times profile.

But Sorrentino is keeping all other details of "Future" under wraps. Shooting on the film is expected to start next year with prominent Italo distributor Medusa planning a 2015 release in Italy. Pic is being shepherded by Sorrentino's regular producers, Nicola Giuliano and Francesca Cima via their Indigo Films shingle.

Sorrentino said he will be travelling to Los Angeles soon to promote the U.S. release of "The Great Beauty," which was well-received in Cannes and is Italy's candidate for the foreign-language Oscar.

"The Great Beauty" will bow Stateside Nov. 15 via Janus Films, starting in New York, and then segueing to Los Angeles, before rolling out in other North American cities.

"In The Future" will mark Sorrentino's second pic toplining an A-list anglo-saxon star, following his collaboration with Sean Penn on "This Must Be The Place" in 2011.

Caine, who is 80, most recently starred in Sandra Nettlebeck's "Last Love," currently on release. Upcoming films in which Caine will appear include Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" and Brad Anderson's "Eliza Graves."
