George Clooney, Matt Damon and Cate Blanchett are plotting the salvation of artistic masterpieces in "The Monuments Men" in a new trailer, two months before the offbeat WWII drama opens Dec. 18.

"You want to go into a war zone and tell our boys what they can and what they cannot blow up?" asks Damon's character at one point. The cast includes Bill Murray, John Goodman and Bob Balaban with Clooney directing.

"Men" is based on the Robert Edsel book of a WWII platoon tasked by FDR with rescuing artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves in Germany and returning them to their rightful owners.

The film is a co-production between Sony and Fox. Clooney and producing partner Grant Heslov wrote the script and are producing through their Smokehouse Productions banner.
