Focus World and Screen Media Films have acquired U.S. rights to Kodi Smit-McPhee's ornithology comedy "A Birder's Guide to Everything" four months after its Tribeca debut.
The companies will release the film on digital platforms and in theaters in the spring.
Smit-McPhee stars as a 15-year-old birding fanatic who embarks on a road trip with a ragtag crew that includes a legendary ornithologist (Ben Kingsley) to solidify a place in birding history. Katie Chang and James Le Gros also star.
Rob Meyer directed "A Birder's Guide to Everything" from a script he co-wrote with Luke Matheny.
Variety critic Ronnie Schieb gave the film a positive review at Tribeca, calling it a "gentle coming of age road movie."
Screen Media and Focus World are also partnered on U.S. distribution of Liz W. Garcia's "The Lifeguard," starring Kristen Bell, and Kyle Patrick Alvarez's "C.O.G."
