Dr. Mary Monica Hamer, 55, is a radiologist at the Lake City Veterans Affairs Hospital with a cause.
She has taken on a “guardian angel” role to a man who is internationally reviled: Joran van der Sloot, 24, the last person to be seen with Alabama teen Natalie Holloway before she went missing in Aruba and who also pleaded guilty this week to murdering a woman in Peru, reports The Gainesville Sun.
According to the Florida Department of Health's practitioner profile on Hamer, she graduated from medical school at Wayne State University in Ohio and did her residency at the William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan. She also completed two fellowships in her field, one at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and another at University of Virginia Sciences Center.
In December she told the Today Show in a December interview that her love is not romantic.
She also said “I love him unconditionally.”
Check out her YouTube video called "Haven't Kissed You Yet."
