Two killed in high-speed car crash in Coral Springs

Two young men were killed early on Christmas after their car slammed into a tree at high speed on Lakeview Drive in Coral Springs.

Police identified the driver as Jonathan JosephLawrence Clarke, 22, of Coral Springs, and the passenger as Travis Mark Wilson, 22, of Lauderhill.

“Speed definitely looks to be a factor in the accident,” said Coral Springs Police Sgt. Carla Kmiotek. “The car was literally mangled, wrapped around the tree.”

The two men were in a 1995 Mitsubishi Eagle Talon, heading east on Lakeview Drive at about 5:25 a.m. on Wednesday, when the driver apparently lost control while going around a curve, police said.

The car left the roadway and rammed into the large tree in the 11900 block. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

It was not immediately known where the men were coming from or headed to or whether alcohol was involved in the accident, Kmiotek said. She could only say that the two were friends.

About 10 people gathered at the accident site on Wednesday morning but declined to talk to the media. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact Traffic Officer Derek Fernandes at 954-346-1754.
