Copenhagen shipwreck

With the Atlantic Ocean a major shipping channel, hundreds of shipwrecks dot the ocean floor off Florida's coast. One is the SS Copenhagen, a steel-hulled steamship that ran aground in 1900 less than a mile offshore from Lauderdale-By-The-Sea while transporting 4,940 tons of coal from Philadelphia to Havana. Today it's an artificial reef, near the Pompano Beach drop-off, south of the Hillsboro Inlet. Info: MuseumsInTheSea.comJoe Amon / Sun Sentinel
