St. Thomas Aquinas, University School and Heritage-Delray pick up more preseason attention

Sun Sentinel

Another set of preseason high school football polls were released over the weekend, and again, South Florida teams are earning recognition.

Both St. Thomas Aquinas and University School were ranked in the top 15 of the Student Sports Fab 50, while American Heritage-Delray earned a spot in the CBS/MaxPreps Small School Preseason Top 25.

St. Thomas, the defending Class 7A state champion who will play Dillard in a preseason game this week, is ranked No. 10 in the nation in the Student Sports Fab 50. That seems to be in line with some of their rankings in the other national polls, including USA Today's Super 25, which has the Raiders ranked No. 11.

The Raiders are one of three South Florida teams ranked in the poll's top 10, including Miami Central (No. 1) and Booker T. Washington (No. 6).

University School, which won the Class 3A title last season and will play in Class 4A this year, is ranked No. 14 in the Student Sports poll. It's their highest spot in any of the preseason polls, many of which have the Suns ranked in the 19-40 range.

American Heritage-Delray, meanwhile, was ranked No. 24 in the CBS/MaxPreps Small Schools Preseason Top 25.
