Robert A. Dressler, is a native of Fort Lauderdale, a graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Law School, a former Marine Corps officer, and was an attorney in private practice in Fort Lauderdale for 35 years. Mr. Dressler was elected Mayor of Fort Lauderdale in 1982 and re-elected in 1985 and subsequently served a six-year term on the Board of Regents of the State University System of Florida. Among other awards and recognitions, he was recognized as , Florida Atlantic University "Person of the Year" in 1993 and "Distinguished Citizen" of Fort Lauderdale in 2007. Since 2007, he has been Moderator of The Fort Lauderdale Forum, a non-profit, non-partisan group with the goal of providing "a place for reasoned discussion of current issues affecting the lives of citizens in Fort Lauderdale and Broward County."
