The Redskins were led by running back John Riggins, whose touchdown and 166 yards on 38 carries helped earn him the MVP trophy in a 27-17 win over the Miami Dolphins. Washington's second-year coach Joe Gibbs guided the offense to a total of 400 yards, including 276 on the ground - a Super Bowl record.
