TALLAHASSEE -- Gov. Rick Scott tomorrow will recommend $35 million in new spending on projects at Port Canaveral, Port Everglades and Port of Tampa.
Scott is slated to announce the proposal during a speech at the American Association of Port Authority's annual convention in Orlando.
The proposal will includde $9.7 milion for Port Canaveral to develop a container yard and $10.4 million for Port of Tampa to improve its container yard. Port Everglades, under the proposal, would receive $14.7 million to support the Turning Notch project, which would lengthen the existing deepwater turning area for cargo ships, allowing for up to five new cargo berths.
Over the last t hree years, the state has spent $642 million on port projects, including waterside projects for Canaveral, Miami and Jacksonville, plus terminal and rail improvements in Tampa. In this current fiscal year, the state is spending more than $275 million on seaport projects.
