End of March: From weather expert Jim Lushine:
March 31 is the fifth anniversary of a severe weather outbreak in Palm Beach County. Two confirmed tornadoes with 65-85 mph winds touched down.
The first one started in Palm Beach Gardens near a golf course and lifted near a high school. Several roofs were damaged. The second, in West Palm Beach, knocked down traffic lights and uprooted trees.
Another thunderstorm produced wind gusts of 64 mph in Riviera Beach knocking down power lines and trees. Flash flooding in Palm Beach Gardens submerged some vehicles to their windows.
On the last day of March in 1996, a severe hailstorm struck PBC with hailstones as large as golf balls (1.25"). The hail damaged 100 vehicles and destroyed a 60-acre cucumber field.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
