Miami Dolphins practice report: Training Camp Day 9

FootballDimitri PattersonRyan TannehillMichael EgnewMarcus ThigpenDaniel Thomas

— Top Phins performers tonight: 1. Wheeler (pick 6). 2. McNutt (very active day with starters) 3. Tyms (active, 2 deep bombs in 1-on-1s).

— Caleb Sturgis just got iced by Joe Philbin before a 42-yard field goal he made. BLANK STARE.

— Lee Robinson just tackled Lamar Miller for a 4-yard loss. Get Your Card!

— NICE speed run from Lamar Miller for a first down.

— Josh Kaddu with a sack of Tannehill during 11-on-11.

— Marvin McNutt caught a 20-yard slant from Tannehill on his second shot.

— Jeff Fuller runs as slant for Moore that gained the 2nd team unit a first down vs the starting D.

— Dannell Ellerbe sacks Matt Moore during his 11-on-11 rep. Second straight sack for the defense. SMH

— Koa Misi sacks Matt Moore. Same team, different scrimmage. Sack-fest.

— Nate Garner is working as a second team center.

— Brandon Field punts the ball. It lands at the 1-yard line and bounces back to the 10. SMH

— Dion Jordan sacks Ryan Tannehill on 4th down. Tannehill gets so mad he spikes the ball down.

— Lamar Miller just bounced a 10-yard run outside to the right.

— Josh Samuda is the starting right guard during the final 11-on-11s.

— Final 11-on-11 session and Marvin McNutt and Brian Tyms are the starting receivers.

— With the line Caleb Sturgis kicked a 42-yard field goal.

— Caleb Sturgis kicked a ton of 40-yard field goals without the line. He made all but one.

— Dimitri Patterson just hit Jeff Fuller and made him fumble during 7-on-7s.

— De'andre Presley just broke up a possible TD pass to Julius Pruitt in the end zone during 7-on-7s.

— Caleb Sturgis just kicked. I sense he's kicking today after a few days of rest.

— Dallas Thomas appears to be the 2nd team LT and then the 3rd team RT. Plenty is being thrown at the rookie.

— Matt Moore's pass is deflected at the line of scrimmage during 11-on-11s.

— Julius Pruitt made a beautiful downfield catch, evading two defenders for a big gain from Pat Devlin on the JV field.

— Michael Egnew just caught a nice catch on the JV field. I suspect he's been demoted. He's usually not a JV guy.

— Phillip Wheeler intercepts a Matt Moore pass Brent Grimes deflects and takes it back for a pick-6.

— Dustin Keller couldn't locate a BEAUTIFUL seam pass from Tannehill during 11-on-11.

— Marcus Thigpen caught a nice pass from Tannehill in the slot during 11-on-11.

— Mike Wallace did individual stuff but hasn't done any team work. But he's not doing any rehab work.

— Brandon Field is KILLING the corner kick. How he isn't a Pro Bowler is a crime, travesty.

— Dallas Thomas was working on the second-team line at right tackle for those 11-on-11 reps. He's a busy boy.

— Just watched Jonathan Martin stand Dion Jordan upright during 11-on-11.

— Brian Tyms with a sideline catch during 11-on-11.

— Just saw Lamar Miller take on a blocker, but it was a blitzing CB. Doesn't count.

— Brian Tyms just caught a nice sideline pass from Tannehill over Nolan Carroll. Looks like Tyms and Fuller got the call up from JV.

— Dustin Keller drops another Tannehill pass, this time during 11-on-11. Two questionable throws, but his hands were on it.

— Dallas Thomas is working as the third team left tackle and just made a second level block on a running play.

— Paul Soliai stops Lamar Miller for a loss during 11-on -11. Next play Miller squirts out the hole for 3 or 4 yards.

— Lance Louis is working with the first team offensive line at right guard. Jared Odrick owned him.

— Just watched OG Lance Louis take an 11-on-11 snap. That's progress!

— Now I want everyone who said Dimitri Patterson should be cut to apologize for premature prognostication.

— It appears Dimitri Patterson is the starting CB opposite Brent Grimes. That's been pretty consistent for a couple days.

— During his rep Daniel Thomas got 5-yards from the 1-yard line. Now you see why he's the short yardage guy?

— The Dolphins are working the offense backed up at the 1-yard line and Paul Soliai tackles Lamar Miller for a SAFETY. 2-points for the D

— Brian Tyms just roasted Julian Posey on a deep ball thrown by Matt Moore. Welcome back Tyms. About time.

— Mike Gillislee just dropped a pass during 7-on-7s.

— Brian Tyms just caught a deep out on Brent Grimes. Been waiting a while for that one. Time for Tyms to flash.

— Julian Posey just deflected a deep ball to Julius Pruitt during 1-on-1.

— Practice is sloppy today. Receivers are dropping ball after ball.

— Special teams....special teams. (Snoring)

— Rookie offensive guard Brian Thomas just limped into the locker room. Looks like he's done for the day.

— If you wonder why I'm not updating much it is because this is a special teams heavy day....BORING!

— Jamar Taylor appears to be doing positional stuff, but not 7-on-7s or 11-on-11. We call that limited.

— Just watched Dion Jordan put a spin move on Jeff Adams during 1-on-1 to get to the fake QB. He looks NICE so far.

— Jamar Taylor does not appear to be working during 7-on-7. He's stretching out his groin on the sidelines.

— Marvin McNutt pulls in a one handed catch from Tannehill during 7-on-7.

— Marcus Thigpen drops a beautiful pass in the seam from Tannehill during 7-on-7.

— Tannehill's second pass during 7-on-7 is a bullet to Charles Clay for a short gain.

— Ryan Tannehill's first pass during 7-on-7 is a little off the mark to Dustin Keller.

— Watching Lance Louis work and he looks like he's about 2 weeks away from being at everyone else's level. No giddy up.

— Randy Starks is starting today, paired with Paul Soliai.

— Dolphins starting receiver Brian Hartline is doing a rehab assignment. He apparently hurt his calf during the scrimmage warm up.

— Jamar Taylor indeed has a helmet and appears to be practicing. He was shut down for a full week due to his groin area.

— Back in 2010 I thought Nate Garner was worthy of the starting right guard spot, THEN he broke his foot and kept getting passed by.

— Richie Incognito has returned to left guard today. More experimenting.

— Nate Garner is the starting right guard today.

— Type of Way is replayed for song No. 3. Dolphins players really like it. (Shoulder shrug)

— Konshens' "Gal A Bubble" is song No. 2. First Reggae son not Bob Marley I've ever heard at practice.

— New Dolphins WR Keenan Davis is wearing No. 3. Julius Pruitt is wearing No. 83. Guess he could get his old No. 11 from Mike Wallace.

— Rich Homie Quan's "Type of Way" is song No. 1 of today's Dolphins practice.

— Bob Griese is here at practice talking Jeff Ireland's ear off.

— It LOOKS like rookie CB Jamar Taylor is trying to practice today. Will keep you posted.

— Dolphins receiver Rishard Matthews injured his right leg earlier this week. That's why he's been shut down.

— Caleb Sturgis now has ORANGE hair. Welcome to the team rookie.
