Today marks the first-ever meeting (on or off the field) between Miami Dolphins backup linebacker Jonathan Freeny and Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney.
The two are distant cousins, but Freeny's family dropped the "E" somewhere along the way.
Colts safety Joe Lefeged, a former Rutgers teammate of Freeny's, alerted Freeney this week that his relative was looking forward to chatting with him on the field before the game.
"I don’t know what I’m going to tell him," Freeny said of his long-sought family reunion with the veteran All-Pro. "Something will hit me at the time."
Freeny is a former Coconut Creek High School star who has two solo tackles and one assist in special teams coverage.
His mother Pamela was expected to be in attendance Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium, but his father is staying home because he doesn't like the cold weather.
Didn't matter that the game is being played in a dome. Eddy Freeny just doesn't like the cold.
"He doesn’t like cold at all," Jonathan Freeny said. "I told him it’s in a dome, but he was like, 'No shot.' "Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
