The annual Miami Dolphins 7-on-7 High School Football Tournament is back for the sixth year. The Dolphins announced Thursday that the three-day event will take place next month, with games set for June 15 and 16.
More than 40 schools from South Florida will take part, including Boyd Anderson, Blanche Ely, Calvary Christian, Cardinal Newman, Coral Springs, Coral Springs Charter, Dillard, Douglas, Dwyer, Flanagan, Fort Lauderdale, Glades Central, John I. Leonard, Jupiter Christian, Miramar, Monarch, Palm Beach Lakes, South Plantation, Stranahan, Taravella and University School from Broward and Palm Beach counties.
On June 14, a symposium will be held at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, 3301 College Ave., from 5 to 7 p.m. Then on the 15th, 7-on-7 games will be played at Central Park in Plantation, 9151 NW 2nd Street., from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The tournament will consist of round-robin play and then move into a single elimination format. The 7-on-7 quarterfinals, semifinals and championship game will be Sunday at 9 a.m. at Sun Life Stadium.
The winning high school team will represent South Florida and the Dolphins at the 2013 HSPD National Championships in Cleveland, Ohio on July 11-14. Glades Central won the 7-on-7 national title in 2010.
