The bible calls Jesus the "lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world." Paintings and windows often depict him as a lamb carrying a banner. As far back as the seventh century, a Benedictine monastery in Italy had a ritual blessing lambs in its sacramentary book. And today, Easter dinners include lamb, borrowed from the Passover Seder.
