For the first time, the Broward County Athletic Association will have a girls volleyball championship this year.
The inaugural tournament, which will feature Broward’s top eight teams, will be held Oct. 12 at Cardinal Gibbons, BCAA athletic director Rocky Gillis said.
The quarterfinals, set for 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., will feature matches on two adjacent courts at the same time. The semifinals will be at 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m., with the championship at 4 p.m. Gillis said the participating teams will be determined based on overall records from BCAA and required FHSAA matches – but not tournament matches – through the end of this week.
The BCAA already has Big 8 championships in boys and girls basketball, though Gillis said this event won’t be named the Big 8, but rather the BCAA Girls Volleyball Championships.
“We had been talking about a few additional events and this was one of the events that we’re adding that was easier to put together,” Gillis said.
