Sheriff Al Lamberti awards Deputy Maury Hernandez with a Medal of Honor. Hernandez is recovering from a gunshot wound to the head after a traffic stop in 2007. His brother Josue Hernandez (right) a Hallandale police officer, and other family members were present. However, in Feb. 2013, Hernandez was arrested and charged with battery for allegedly trying to strangle his wife. A year earlier, Hernandez shot and killed a homeless man he said assaulted him and his family at an ice cream shop near his Miami Lakes home. He was not charged in that incident.
