Italy's lower house of Parliament began debating Tuesday a bill that would make homophobia a criminal offense. The law is considered very controvercial as the Catholic Church considers homosexuality a sin and as several Catholic figures spanning across center-left and center-right fear the bill could curtain freedom of speech and opinion.
