On Friday evening, when a Lakeland mom and dad heard a noise on the baby monitor that sounded like someone was in their baby’s room, they went into the child's room and found a stranger leaning into their baby’s crib, according to a news release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
The dad gabbed the woman, who said to him, “It’s not what you think,” and pleaded with him not to throw her out, saying, “He’s gonna kill me,” according to the release.
The dad threw the woman out of the home then watched as the woman run away with a man and called deputies.
Deputies said the description provided by the homeowners matched the description of a woman wanted in another burglary that same night. The woman had also left some of her blood on the baby's diaper and on the broken window, the release stated.
The woman was positively identified as Megan Michelle Jones, 31, and deputies later found her on April Fool's Day. She had cuts on her arms, legs, back and forehead, according to the arrest affidavit.
Jones is no stranger to deputies, who said that she had been in the Polk County Jail on eight prior occasions for drug charges, reckless driving and several counts of battery.
Deputies said Jones 'fessed up to breaking a window at a house in her neighborhood, but claimed she had been drinking that night and didn't remember what had happened.
Jones was previously booked into the Polk County Jail in February on traffic and drug charges and had been sentenced to 30 days in the work release program -- which she was serving when she committed this crime, according to the Sheriff's Office.
She has now been booked into the Polk County Jail and charged with Kidnapping and Unarmed Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
