This & That Thrift Boutique, Davie

Wow factor: The boutique lives up to its name. The 620-square-foot storefront is packed with what co-owner Lore Paloor refers to as "a little bit of this and a little bit of that." Families on a budget can outfit themselves, entertain the kids and decorate their homes in a single shopping spree. Background: Paloor and partner Carrie Mannix met working in a bank's administrative offices. They went their separate ways career-wise but stayed friends. Mannix was a stay-at-home mom and Paloor a medical technologist when they turned their dream of owning a shop into a reality. More than four years into the boutique biz, they work hard to keep things fresh with an eclectic, ever-changing inventory. Merchandise falls into three categories: like new, mint in box and new with tags. The ladies make no apologies for being picky. Goods must be in pristine condition. Inspections are by appointment only. If accepted, cash is paid on the spot. The exception: designer handbags, which are sold on consignment (50-50 split). Quote: "We hand-pick and scrutinize each piece," Paloor says. "People come in and ask us if we have any used items. It's the best compliment we can get." The merchandise: You'll find a large selection of casual, office and evening wear in a variety of sizes. Designer labels include Juicy Couture, Ecko, Coach, American Eagle, Gap and Wrangler. Dress up outfits with scarves, belts, shoes and jewelry. Editor's picks: NASCAR-issued Jeff Gordon long-sleeved pullover ($7.99; new with tag); Scooby-Doo print necktie ($3.99); Ann Taylor gray pantsuit ($21.99); pink fleece infant sleeper ($2.99); Dolce & Gabbana aviator-style sunglasses with case ($112); red All-Weather Leather Dooney & Bourke Duck handbag ($100); The Sims 2 computer game ($12.99); I Dream of Jeannie Barbie doll ($20); vintage 1960s burgundy and gold beaded necklace ($16.99). Decor galore: 5-foot-tall, hand-painted, wooden African mask wall hanging ($45); a pair of tall wrought iron and glass candle holders ($14); a Fitz and Floyd Alice in Wonderland tea set ($64 for pot, sugar bowl and creamer). Discounts: The boutique offers monthly discounts of 20 to 25 percent off on everything in the store except designer handbags. - Beth Feinstein-Bartl INFORMATIONAL BOX: This & That Thrift Boutique Address: 6506 SW 39th St., Davie Hours: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday Owners: Lore Paloor and Carrie Mannix Contact: 954-321-9274 Do you know of a Divine Find, a local shop or boutique with an especially distinct flair?
