Lulu Girl, Fort Lauderdale

Wow factor: This fun and funky boutique inside The Promenade at Bay Colony is an exhibit of colors for young fashionistas and grownup glamour gals. There's a rainbow of tanks, tees and dresses plus a bling-tastic display of jewelry including charms and silver chains with semiprecious stones. Find hearts, peace symbols and plenty of positive affirmations, such as necklace tags etched with the words friendship, dream and believe. Sweets for the feet: Show off those pedis with a pair of flip-flops embellished with Swarovski crystals or toe straps decorated with faux diamonds. Up on fashion: If it's in, Lulu Girl aims to have it in stock. "Styles are ever-changing," co-owner Bill Glazer said. "We watch MTV and all the hot shows and movies, and constantly read magazines to keep up with the latest trends." Their beginnings: Bill and Karen Glazer bring about 50 years of combined corporate retail experience. He's a Boston-bred former stock boy who climbed the ladder up to the executive offices. She's a multi-tasking Houston native who's done everything from management to merchandising. A desire to change locales and lifestyles led them from Westport, Conn., to South Florida in 2001. They opened the original Lulu Girl in Parkland the following year, and relocated to a bigger spot in 2005. Store lore: The boutique is named after their daughter, Lauren, 24, whose nickname is Lulu. Editor's picks: Tie-dye, cotton ruffled skirts by Billie Girls ($25); shoulder bags of recycled denim and laminated photos - choose Miley Cyrus or the Jonas Brothers ($24); Brazilian-imported Havaianas flip-flops with images of Wonder Woman ($16.99); Lucy Love long tie-dye cotton dress ($54); It! flare stretch denim jeans ($79); bright yellow Roxy canvas tote ($19.99); panda bear silver stud earrings ($9.99).
