Coconut Consignment Co., Boca Raton

Wow factor: At first blush, one might assume this 2,000-square-foot furniture and accessories shop is dealing in new rather than consignment pieces. There's much in the way of glassware; large and small furniture pieces; and decorative items such as mirrors and pictures. In keeping with its name, the shop has a display of coconuts in the storefront window. Friendly Fiona: The 2-year-old English sheepdog, Fiona, holds court from behind the counter, amusing and licking the hands of willing browsers. Editor's picks: White silk throw pillows ($24 for pair); leather dove gray modern sofa ($270); Ethan Allen club chair in chenille moss green with matching ottoman ($230). Background: Rich Harris and Jeff Glasser opened Coconut almost 14 years ago after both decided to leave careers in restaurant management. With so many people in the area always in transition, the shop has the opportunity to constantly update its inventory, which ranges from antique to contemporary pieces, all priced to "move" rather than according to value. Everything is immaculate. Extra service: Coconut will contract out for a home delivery service that charges by the hour, Harris says, but there's no charge for local pick-up on furniture being consigned. Future: "We like this small boutique feel and we're going to keep with this [current mode]," Harris says. "We've developed new shoppers through the recession." - Jennifer Heit INFORMATIONAL BOX: Coconut Consignment Co. Address: 68 S.
