Former Dillard track and field coach and athletic director Robert Green is one of seven individuals – three coaches, two administrators and two student-athletes – who’ll be inducted into the Florida High School Athletic Hall of Fame this year, the FHSAA announced Thursday.
The ceremony will take place April 28 in Gainesville. The 2013 class also includes Bruce Irvin, Norman Jackson, Charles “Buddy” Lowe, Paul McLaughlin, John Messina and Holly Thompson.
Green, who spent 35 years at Dillard, where he also was an assistant football coach, campaigned with the state in the late 1960s to allow Dillard, then an all-black high school, to remain open after school desegregation began.
He founded the “Dillard 100 Club,” an organization that raises money for school athletic trips, after retirement and remains involved in Panthers athletics.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
