Copa Airlines: New Lauderdale-Panama service starts July 11

Copa Airlines will begin new nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale and Panama four times a week starting July 11, the carrier announced Wednesday.

Fort Lauderdale will be Copa's fourth destination in Florida and its tenth in the U.S. The airline already flies between Panama and Miami, Orlando and Tampa.

In a statement an official for the Panamanian carrier said the new flight to Panama will provide increased connectivity for Fort Lauderdale and Broward County-area residents to business and leisure destinations in Latin America such as Colombia and Guatemala, Costa Rica and even Peru.

“Copa Airlines is very pleased to offer this new nonstop service between Latin America and the Fort Lauderdale/Broward County area, with its booming tourism industry and a growing Latin American population,” said Fernando Fondevila, regional manager North America.

Spirit Airlines currently flies to Panama from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport three times a week, airport officials said Wednesday.

“We are delighted Copa Airlines has chosen Fort Lauderdale to provide service through their gateway in Panama to Central and South America,” said Kent G. George, Director of Aviation, Broward County Aviation Department.

Copa will operate a Boeing 737-700 Next-Generation with 12 business class seats and 112 economy seats on the new Lauderdale-Panama route.

From Fort Lauderdale flight 266 will depart Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 6:00 p.m., arriving at Panama's Tocumen International Airport at 8:03 p.m., Copa said. Returning flight 265 will depart Panama 11:46 a.m. to arrive at 4 p.m. on the same days.
