Veteran cornerback Dimitri Patterson, who has pulled down four interceptions in the five games he's played this season, practiced on a limited basis all week despite the groin injury he's been nursing all season. The Dolphins listed the team's starting cornerback as questionable for Sunday's game.
If Patterson doesn't suffer a setback, and warms up well against the Steelers on Sunday, it is possible he'll play his first game in three weeks. However, expect Nolan Carroll to remain the starter opposite Brent Grimes.
Patterson has re-aggravated the groin injury he's had since training camp three times this season. The groin happens to be a troublesome injury for certain positions because, as Patterson points out "that's my steering wheel," and the area impacts his ability to chance directions.
It is possible that if he suffers another setback the Dolphins will shut Patterson down for the season, placing him on injured reserve for the final three games.
Also listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Pittsburgh is Dolphins tailback Daniel Thomas, who on Friday participated his first practice since injuring his left ankle against the Panthers on Nov. 24th. Thomas' participate was limited.
Rookie Mike Gillislee played replaced Thomas last week, playing in his first NFL game as Thomas' replacement and gained 21 rushing yards on six carries.
The only Dolphins players completely ruled out for Sunday's game was rookie cornerback Jamar Taylor, who hasn't practiced at all this week because of a hamstring injury that kept him out of last Sunday's game.
Starting right guard John Jerry, who suffered a concussion in Miami's win over the Jets, practiced without limitations on Friday. It was Jerry's first practice of the week. Jerry, who is the only Dolphins offensive lineman to start every game this season, is listed as probable for Sunday's game.
Free safety Chris Clemons (hamstring/knee), tight end Michael Egnew (neck), tailback Lamar Miller (pectoral), linebacker Austin Spitler (knee) and quarterback Ryan Tannehill (thumb) are also listed as probable.
