Archbishop McCarthy leads list of local teams in national baseball rankings

Sun Sentinel

Archbishop McCarthy remained No. 1 in this week's MaxPreps Xcellent 25 national high school baseball rankings. Meanwhile, Flanagan moved up three spots to No. 10 and previously unranked Park Vista made an appearance at No. 21.

In Perfect Game's national high school Top 50 poll, McCarthy is No. 1, but the second-highest ranked local team is Coral Springs Christian, which jumped four spots to No. 3 this week. American Heritage is No. 29 in Perfect Game's poll and Flanagan is No. 32.

Here's what Perfect Game noted about Coral Springs Christian in its rankings:

Coral Springs Christian (Fla.) boasts an impressive roster led by presumptive first round pick in right handed pitcher Touki Toussaint. Toussaint isn't the only All-American on the roster, as battery mate Benito Santiago was also selected to represent the East team at the 2013 PG All-American Classic, and they're joined by several other highly talented Division I signees. Thus, the Cavaliers opened the season with lofty expectations and a top ten ranking, opening the season at No. 9. The season started in the middle of February, but the Crusaders didn't really show up until the last day of the month, stumbling to a 1-4 start to the regular season. Since the calendar flipped to March it has been a completely different story, as they've gone 12-1 with their lone loss during that stretch coming at the hands of nationally ranked Clovis (Calif.) at the National High School Invitational. Their continued dominance of late finds them all the way up to No. 3 in the nation after another strong week back at home in Florida.
