Last week: Opponents of the Affordable Care Act are gearing up once again to overturn the new healthcare program in the coming session. Whether you are for or against the plan, it's important to understand the basics — one of the most important components is being implemented in the next 100 days. Visit the Keiser Family Foundation at www.kff.org for two easy-to-understand videos on the act. Watch and pass it on.
Looking ahead: As we move into September, National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, please keep in your thoughts the 22,000 women who will be diagnosed with this highly lethal, but often symptom-less disease this year. Ovarian Cancer is the fifth-leading cause of cancer death for women, and almost half of those diagnosed will die of the disease this year. Hope is growing – recent research suggests that longterm tracking with a CA-125 blood test may help in early detection and save lives.
Looking ahead: Congrats to the new "Center for Philanthropy," the recently renamed building owned by the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties. The courtyard-centered space is home to several nonprofit organizations serving our local community, including the Community Foundation, Credability, Cystic Fibrosis and others. While the organizations maintain separate legal structures, the Center for Philanthropy brings varying missions together in partnership to better serve our community collaboratively. Kudos to all involved!Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
