Those denizens of Florida north of Lake Okeechobee compete for our tourist dollars, have different politics and, well, are just not as cool. Once you cross that line, you enter the territory of competing sports franchises such as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay Lightning, Orlando Magic and the Jacksonville Jaguars. More than a few South Floridians seldom travel north of said line, except to go to Disney World, where they avoid actually mingling with local Orlando residents. Meanwhile, those Floridians north of us look down upon our weird happenings, difficulty with English in certain areas and image-obsessed beach denizens. In short, there's no love lost between South Florida and the rest of the state.
