He was just here, but now he's back: Luke Bryan, who performed in South Florida earlier this month, will headline the 28th annual 99.9 Kiss Country Chili Cookoff Sunday at C.B. Smith Park in Pembroke Pines.
Bryan highlighted the Bud Light Championship Game Day Fan Zone activities on Jan. 7 outside Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens. The singer, who recently picked up his first American Music Award as Favorite Male Country Artist, earned three No. 1 singles in 2012: "Country Girl (Shake It for Me)," "I Don't Want This Night To End" and "Drunk on You."
Bryan, from Leesburg, Ga., has six career No. 1 singles, and last week he hit the road for the first time as a headliner, on the Dirt Road Diaries Tour.
Kacey Musgraves ("Merry Go 'Round") will open the Cookoff at 10:05 a.m., followed by Florida Georgia Line, Thompson Square ("Kiss Me or Not"), Ronnie Dunn and Bryan, whose performance will end by 5:45 p.m.
Host WKIS-FM limited ticket sales to the show to 22,500, several thousand fewer than the 2012 concert. The show is sold out, but the station still is giving away tickets via promotions. Go to WKIS.com.
The Pines Boulevard parking lot will open at 1 a.m., the Taft Street lot at 6 a.m. and the concert gates at 8:30 a.m. Parking costs $5.
Food and refreshments will be available for purchase, but you can't go trolling the park trying to score free chili, even though 128 competitors will be making it from scratch: The public can snag food only if the contestant has a registered food-vendor permit. Them's the rules.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
