Aside from Ultra, music festivals in Miami are seldom successful. When jam-band-packed Langerado moved from the Everglades to downtown in 2009, the festival was canceled and never brought back. Something called UR1 promised to have Kanye West and Lou Reed at Bayfront Park in December 2012, but it was called off weeks before the show date, even though most taxis in Miami Beach were wrapped in festival banners.
But a music, art and technology fest scheduled for this weekend seems to be on track. III Points Festival will bring LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy, the XX's Jamie XX, DJ Shadow and others to Wynwood venues from Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 3-5. For tickets and lineup, go to IIIPoints.com.
Fans of alternative opera will be delighted to hear soprano Sarah Brightman at the BB&T Center on Saturday, Oct. 5. The Andrew Lloyd Webber muse and performer of the Diva Plavalaguna's songs in "The Fifth Element" is on her Dreamchaser World Tour. ($30-$250, TheBBTCenter.com
Also on Saturday, West Palm Beach will get a country show like only the Cruzan Amphitheatre can put on. Keith Urban's Light the Fuse Tour features the group Little Big Town and Dustin Lynch, and the show is part of the Cruzan's Country Megaticket promotion, which allows ticket holders to attend all this season's country concerts.
