Animal rights activist to give free talk in Fort Lauderdale

Staff writer

Paul Shapiro, vice president of farm animal protection for The Humane Society of the United States, will host a free presentation called Eating with a Conscience. It’s 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 2 at the South Florida Wildlife Center, 3200 SW 4th Ave., Fort Lauderdale.

Shapiro will discuss the pressing issues facing farm animals and the progress being made to protect them. He’ll also offer easy ways we all may help. A free light luncheon follows his talk in the center’s open-air pavilion.

Shapiro was inducted into the United States Animal Rights Hall of Fame in 2008 and is well known for exposing cruel conditions for farm animals. Because of his efforts, farm animal protection laws have been enacted in California, Arizona, Michigan, Maine, Colorado, Oregon, and Ohio.

Registration is required to attend. Call 954-524-4302, ext. 33 or email
