He was named the American League's starting second baseman for the 2005 All-Star Game. In 2007, Roberts set a career high with 50 stolen bases. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound switch-hitter was born in Durham, N.C., on Oct. 9, 1977. Roberts began his collegiate baseball career at North Carolina, where his father, Mike Roberts, was the Tar Heels' coach. After his father was dismissed as UNC's coach, Roberts transferred to South Carolina, where he finished his college career. He was named a second team All-American by Baseball America during his time with the Gamecocks.
