Pow wow Pow-Wow, an American Indian-owned company, is presenting the second day of its 15th annual Howard County Pow-Wow/American Indian Show and Festival at the Howard County Fairgrounds, in West Friendship. Dancers, singers, drummers, artists and artisans will be on hand. Gates open at 11 a.m. Native American dancers will perform in full regalia. Singing, craft demonstrations, pony rides, face painting and other children's activities are planned. Buffalo stew, fried bread, Indian corn soup and buffalo burgers will be for sale. Guys, dolls Howard County Summer Theatre will present Guys and Dolls at 2 p.m. today and 7 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Mount Hebron High School, 9440 Route 99, Ellicott City. Shakespeare in ruins Chesapeake Shakespeare Company in the Ruins will present its final performance of Shakespeare'sThe Tempest at 5 p.m. at Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park, 3691 Sarah's Lane, Ellicott City. Tickets (which can be purchased at www.chesapeakeshakespeare.com, at 866-811-4111 or at the door) are $25; $22 for senior citizens and $15 for students to age 22. Those ages 18 and younger are admitted free with a paying adult. Musicians, jugglers and various acts will perform for picnickers who arrive early. 'All Shook Up' Toby's Dinner Theatre of Columbia, 5900 Symphony Woods Road, is presenting the romantic comedy based on the songs of Elvis Presley, All Shook Up, through Aug. 24. Doors open at 6 for evening shows Tuesday through Saturday and at 5 p.m. Sunday. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. for Wednesday and Sunday matinees. Reservations are required. Columbia TV Columbia Matters, the Columbia Association cable television show, is on Howard Community College cable channel 71 and Verizon cable channel 41 at 11 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Mondays, and 8:30 p.m. Saturdays; and on Comcast channel 73 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Host Mike Easterling will prepare summer recipes on the grill with Chef Scott Bonitto. Dr. Harry Oken will offer tips on protecting your skin from the sun. A KidsKorner segment began last month. Expectations The Montpelier Arts Center, 9652 Muirkirk Road, Laurel, will present Great Expectations: Prince George's County Residents in the Civil Rights Movement, through July 27. The exhibition follows the contributions to the civil rights movement by county residents and their interactions with county, state and national civil rights leaders. River history Patapsco Valley State Park will offer a River History Hike to explore the Orange Grove Mill, the Swinging Bridge and Bloede Dam with one of the park's Volunteer Rangers. Children ages 8 through adult are invited. The hike will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; the group will meet at the parking lot across from Shelter #106 near the swinging bridge in the Avalon/Orange Grove Area of the park, 5120 South Street, Halethorpe. Sunset serenade Comcast and Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks are presenting Sunset Serenades 2008, an outdoor summer concert series at Centennial Park South, through Aug. 20. Weekend
On the edge Painter Kathleen Schuman and photographer Ann Eid have created experimental multimedia images for their show, Women on the Edge, at Artists' Gallery at the American City Building, 10227 Wincopin Circle, Columbia. The show runs through July 25. Schuman, who spent many years as a plein air painter, has used her studio as subject; Eid, who has lived and traveled through the Middle East, uses paper, paint and her computer to transform her photographs. Ghost tours Howard County Tourism is offering Friday and Saturday night ghost tours in Ellicott City at 8:30 p.m. Re-enactors tell stories from the history of the old mill town. Artists The HoCo Open 2008, a nonjuried exhibit held biennially at Howard County Center for the Arts, 8510 High Ridge Road, Ellicott City, shows works by those ages 18 and older who live, work or study in Howard County in the center's Gallery I. NoBoundaries, work by youth and adults with developmental disabilities (presented in partnership with the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks' Therapeutic Services) is showing in Gallery II. An opening reception is planned from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 22. The show runs through Aug. 17.
