'Vikings' takes 3rd season on History


The historical drama "Vikings" already has looted Thursday night viewers and now it's taking a third season on History.

The channel Tuesday announced a 10-episode pickup of the series for 2015. It stars Travis Fimmel as ambitious Viking chieftain Ragnar Lothbrok, whose adventurous nature drives his people to explore and conquer new lands.

The show, created by Michael Hirst, is currently halfway through its second season, airing at 9 p.m. Thursdays. It has averaged 3.4 million total viewers this season and it's the top-rated cable program in its time period.

"Vikings" is History's first scripted drama series.
