The tumultuous Democratic National Convention opens in Chicago's International Amphitheatre The convention is marked by violence outside the venue in Grant Park as well as inside during the violent times after Martin Luther King Jr.'s and Robert F. Kennedy's assassinations and ongoing anger over the Vietnam War. Chicago definitely didn't show the world its best face. Chicago Tribune archive photo
