South Shore has seen two homicides in the last week, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
On Tuesday, an 18-year-old man was shot to death in the 2400 block of East 75th Street, police said. Four days earlier, a 50-year-old man was fatally shot in the 7800 block of South Yates Boulevard, officials said.
South Shore has seen 16 homicides so far this year. The South Side community area recorded 15 homicides last year, according to RedEye data.
Citywide, gunshot homicides were logged in the last week in Austin, Chicago Lawn, Brighton Park, Englewood, Gage Park, New City and North Lawndale, RedEye determined.
Meanwhile, a man in his 40s was beaten to death Sunday in the 7900 block of South Greenwood Avenue in Chatham, officials said.
October ended this week with 44 homicides, up from 35 homicides recorded in October last year, RedEye data shows.
